Running the TEE Center is not adding up to be as costly as expected.
The new Augusta Convention Center opened earlier this year, was expected to cost the city $800,000 this year to operate. Though the year isn't over, officials with the Marriott Hotel say they're happy with operating costs so far.
"It's a new venture for the city, as well as us operating a new convention center. We were trying to make our best guess. Obviously, we didn't want to come around here and say we're over that in way of losses, so were under that, yes," says Paul Simon, of the Marriott Hotel.
"In the end of the year, it will be how much less?" we asked Simon. "Well, the end of the year, I can't say," he said.
But, Augusta Commissioners say, based on projections, the losses should be $150,000 below what was anticipated.
