CARL DICKINSON CARL DICKINSON
LEE COUNTY, Ala. -

UPDATE: The family of murder victim Carl Dickinson has set up a memorial fund in his name. The family hopes to raise money to help pay for his burial. Donations can be made at the Keystone Bank in Auburn located at 2394 E University Drive or the location in Opelika. The fund is called the Carl Dickinson Memorial Fund.

A Lee County family is searching for answers in their brother's murder. Carl Dickinson was found shot to death inside his home on Lee Road 649 Sunday afternoon. Investigators have not identified a motive or suspect and the family is asking anyone with information to come forward and call police at 334-749-561.

"He was a very easy-going person, he was a very loving person. he loved his family, he loved his siblings," Linda Ferrell said about her big brother. She said Dickinson could do almost anything; hunt, fix cars and he even built his home from the bottom up.

It was inside that home where THE 58-year-old died. A friend who was living with Dickinson and his family came home around 3:15 p.m. CDST and found him with several gunshot wounds and called 911. For the last several years Dickinson worked as a truck driver and spent most of his time on the road. He was last heard from on Thursday evening when he talked to his wife on the phone just before 6 p.m. CDST.

Ferrell said she saw first responders come out to the area, but had no idea it was for her brother. "That's when my uncles came up and told me he was gone."

This is the first homicide investigation of the year for the Lee County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Jay Jones said it appears there were no signs of forced entry into the home, which leads Dickinson's family to believe the murderer knew him. Sheriff Jones said his deputies are working every angle."Not to say that we haven't had stranger on stranger crime, because we have, but in these issues with homicides in many cases, we've seen some type of relationship between the victim and the offender."

Dickinson's relatives are now living on edge because a lot of them live along the same stretch of road where he died. "If somebody's bold enough to do this to him, even though we feel that he knew who it was, what else might they do," Ferrell said.

The family said Dickinson's wife recently gave birth to a baby and although he was not the father, he was on-board with the idea.

No weapon was recovered at the scene.

Anyone with information on the murder is encouraged to call the Lee County Sheriff's Office at 334-749-5651 or Lee County Crime Stoppers at 1888-522-7847.
