Whether you're serving our country or our community, Barry Wheeler and his business partner, Ben Sweet, say they can get you benefits.
"We started out as just a membership in golf and saving money for local golfers. The dining club came a year later, and you can go to restaurants and enjoy a nice discount," says Hero Card co-founder Barry Wheeler.
The discount card is free for local heroes, and is paid for by folks who support these heroes. It's an attempt, they say, to save money for those who have saved lives.
Sweet says it also cycles money into small, locally-owned businesses, keeping money earned in the Garden City...in the Garden City.
Here's how it works:
"It's heroes. The hero benefits from local businesses. It's the hero families that help support the program and overall can be used by the fundraisers to raise the money for their community projects," says Sweet.
tyrone McCoy, reporting: "And, organizers say that this card could get you discounts and businesses all around the CSRA...businesses like the Patridge Inn."
Janet Henderson says the Patridge Inn jumped onboard, advertising their discounts on the group's Facebook page. Soon after, she says they got a pleasant surprise. "I saw all these people just starting to come in with these cards and I wasn't expecting to be what it was. It definitely put us back on the map and increased the business here," she says.
