A man has been arrested and charged in Swainsboro in connection to a credit union robbery and school bomb threat.

Emanuel County Sheriff's Office investigators say, around 9:15 a.m. Friday morning, law enforcement agencies in Emanuel County were dispatched to Swainsboro High School in reference to a bomb threat. Shortly thereafter, Emanuel County Sheriff's Office (ECSO) deputies, Swainsboro Police Department (SPD) officers and Twin City Police Department officers arrived at the school. The school was evacuated according to school policy.

During the investigation of the bomb threat, additional information was dispatched by Emanuel County 911 in reference to an armed robbery at the Swainsboro Branch of Robins Federal Credit Union. Through information from an eyewitness at the credit union, officers were given detailed information of the suspect and the suspect's vehicle, including the direction of travel. Officers made contact with the suspect's vehicle within minutes of the robbery. Following a brief vehicle chase, the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Otis Alexander (of a Swainsboro, Georgia address), was taken into custody without incident.

Emanuel County Sheriff Tyson Stephens and Chief Randy Ellison, of the Swainsboro Police Department, would like to thank the numerous law enforcement agencies assisting in the incidents, which also included the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), the Treutlen County Sheriff's Office, Chatham County Sheriff's Office, Georgia State Patrol, Stillmore Police Department, Swainsboro Fire Department, Candler County Sheriff's Office, Federal Bureau of
Investigation and the Emanuel County Sheriff's School Resource Unit.

Investigators have concluded that the bomb threat and robbery were related. Investigators confirm that the bomb threat was used as a diversionary tactic. No bomb or explosive device was found at the school after an extensive search by officers, explosive detection dogs, and school administrators.

Both incidents remain under investigation by the GBI, SPD and ECSO. Alexander is currently being held in the Emanuel County Jail without bond. He is charged with numerous felonies, including Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Transmitting a False Public Alarm and Terroristic Threats and Acts.

Anyone with information helpful to this case is asked to call the Swainsboro Police Department at (478) 237-8967 or the Emanuel County Sheriff's Office at (478) 237-7526.
