Columbia, SC -

Benedict college student is dead after alleged complications from child birth.

The student's family in California family is devastated after learning their loved one bled to death in her college dorm.

The family says they knew nothing about the young girl's pregnancy.

Ssonseeahray Tonsall reports.

"She liked simple things... she liked trees.. she liked bugs. you'd say dress and she'd say jeans…you'd say heels..she'd say sneakers."

Ayaanah Gibson's grandmother says her spirit was as comfortable and welcoming as her style...making others feel special and at ease in any situation.

"She had this smile."

"She'd go hi!."

Loved ones can't believe that smile has faded away from them forever now that Gibson's been found dead in her South Carolina dorm room at Benedict College.

The Richland County Coroner has confirmed Gibson was found Tuesday night in Columbia - bleeding to death after delivering a stillborn baby in her freshman dorm...alone.

Trembling, her mother can barely speak about all Gibson hoped to do.

"She was uh ready to go off and start her life."

Sybil Gibson says no one in the family knew that life would soon include a baby... and that South Carolina doctors have told them Ayaanah didn't know either.

"How are you sure about that? That she didn't know? Because of the way the pregnancy was found out... she wouldn't have known.  We're not revealing the reason. Mom doesn't want to talk about that. "

The family is eager to talk about the hurdles Gibson cleared to get to her college dream.

"It was a tumor on the front of her brain."

She beat brain cancer to get to benedict....just recently celebrating 5 years in remission with her grandmother, a cancer survivor diagnosed the same year.

Loved ones say Gibson would have been successful at whatever came next.

"She was a good person and I know that she would have been a good mom cause she was good person and a caring person."

"She wanted everybody to be happy... she'd always say why can't everybody be happy like me."
