Man charged in toddler's death in Statesville

STATESVILLE, N.C. -

A man has been arrested in the death of a 17-month old toddler in Statesville.
    
Police say Leland Washington died Monday, five days after he was attacked.
    
Investigators have charged 20-year-old Shaquille Lawrence Brown with killing the boy. Brown was arrested Wednesday and is being held in the Iredell County jail. Police say Brown had been dating the child's mother
    
Police were called to a home Aug. 28 and found the boy with severe injuries. He was taken to Iredell Memorial Hospital and was later flown to Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.
    
It was not clear if Brown has a lawyer.
