AUGUSTA, GA (WJBF) -
On Wednesday, the Augusta Greenjackets were routed by the Sand Gnats 10-2 in game one of the South Atlantic League southern division playoff series and now find themselves in a must win situation when the series shifts to Savannah.
The Jackets fell behind by 9 runs before rallying to score two late runs in a comeback attempt. First baseman Ben Turner went 3-for-4 from the plate and says the Sand Gnats are mirror images of each other. Both teams feature strong pitching staffs with team ERA's in the top 5 of the league.
Augusta has lost to Savannah 17 times in 25 games, it's worst margin against any South Atlantic League team. But the Greenjackets boast a division best 41 road wins in 2013 - which has them confident they can take two games in Savannah.
"We both play the same game," Turner said. "We've played them really close all year but they've managed to come out on top more times than us. But it usually comes down to the last inning. But we put up a couple runs in the last part of the game which should give us momentum heading to their place."
