It seems to be a new way to fight crime for law enforcement, through social media. And another local sheriff's office is doing the same thing. WJBF News Channel 6's Barclay Bishop has more.
Columbia County just started their accounts last week and it's something that they anticipate will be invaluable for their citizens. But these accounts will serve as more than just a place to put up "wanted" pictures. They want to use this as a platform for many different things. Things like lane closures, accident awareness, and even alerting folks of crime trends in the area. In addition, it will let the sheriff's office put out warnings of things in "real time", an option they didn't have before.
"It's just an additional resource, another tool for us to use to get the information out, and also to elicit the information on crimes and criminal suspects," said Capt. Steve Morris, Columbia County Sheriff's Office. " 'Like' us, spread the word, tell your friends, and you know the more people we can interact with, the better."
Surrounding counties like Richmond and Aiken, also have these social media pages which have proven to work very well. Below are the links to the social media pages of surrounding area Sheriff's Offices.
