UPDATED ON 6: Search Is Over For Possible 5th Street Bridge Jumper

We have learned the search for a person who possible jumped from the 5th Street bridge is now over.

Officials have now stopped the search after a person mathcing the description of the alleged jumper was seen running along the banks of the Savannah River.

WJBF News Channel 6 has learned Augusta Fire Department and Richmond County Sheriff's Office personnel are searching for a person who may have jumped off the 5th Street bridge.

We are told a motorist notified officials around 3:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon that a black man jumped off the bridge into the Savannah River.

A search perimeter has been set up in the Savannah River.

Traffic on the 5th Street bridge is down to one lane as the search continues.

We have a crew on the scene and we will provide more information as it becomes available.
