At Pine View Apartments in Pacolet, people living here will tell you, they haven't paid their rent this month. But it’s not because they don't want to.

“I want to pay it but it's just we ain't got nobody to give it to,” said Marianne McCollum.

Residents say several weeks ago, the apartment office closed up shop, leaving no one to take rent checks or maintenance requests.

“Different people don't have their AC working and stuff,” said Marianne. “It's a lot of problems down here."

She says a fire tore through one apartment in June, that hasn’t been touched since. She showed us the damage and charred furniture sitting inside, with trash and other debris spread across the grass outside.

Gloria Ann Long's unit is right next door.

“We just want to know what to do. That's the only thing I can say,” said Gloria. “We just want to know what to do about everything.”

A Spartanburg County property search lists Pine View Associates of Pacolet, with a Columbia, SC mailing address, as the owner. But there’s no number listed for the company.

The complex offers government assisted housing through the U.S. Department of Agriculture, with UAH Property Management overseeing the complex.

After several phone calls we were referred to the USDA state office in Columbia.

And now the USDA tells us that UAH Property Management has arrived back on site to collect rent and maintain the premises.

At least until they come up with a long term plan to fix up the place.

Residents here just want them to appreciate it as much as they do.

“Oh it's a wonderful place to live,” said Gloria.

“I would love to stay here, love to stay here,” said Marianne.

The USDA wouldn't comment on how the complex got to this point. Our calls to UAH Property Management have not been returned.

But a realtor involved with the property says it's being sold. He tells us he's working with the USDA to find a new owner as soon as possible, to get it into shape for the residents.

In the meantime, the USDA says there are no plans to make residents move.
