One local woman knows first hand the loss of losing a loved one by drowning. Sandie Craig's husband, Scott, drowned to death in 2011. Now, she remembers him by collecting donated life vests and giving them to the Army Corp of Engineers. Donations go to the Corps Life Jacket Loaner program that is available, free of charge, to park goers who don't have one.
"Since Memorial Day weekend which is a little over three months, we have donated 286 life jackets to date as of this weekend but were not stopping, we want to double next year," said Sandie Craig, widow to Scott Craig.
You can help donate to the life vest program. Just log onto Facebook and search for the group 'Remembering Scotty Craig'.
