Lillington town commissioner passes away

LILLINGTON, N.C. -

Town officials said Linda Stephens, a Lillington town commissioner, died Thursday at her home.

She was in her sixth year of service as a town commissioner.

"The town has lost a great leader, and our thoughts and prayers are with the family," said Mayor Glenn McFadden.

Stephens spent 33 years in Harnett County public schools as a guidance counselor before retiring and becoming a town commissioner.

A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Lillington Baptist Church, a visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.

Stephens burial will be held at Summerville Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
