Augusta commissioners are debating whether to keep a probation company on the job.
State Court Judges is requesting a continuation of the contract with Sentinel Offender Services.
After several lawsuits Richmond County Superior Court cut ties with Sentinel late last year.
Commissioners have their concerns about supporting Sentinel for State Court, but the alternative would be costly.
"That will cost us now the fees that are generated pay Sentinel to operate and pay all the other functions of the operation but if we bring it back in house we'll have to fund that source and that would be money coning out of the General Fund," says Mayor Pro-Tem Corey Johnson.
Commissioner Donnie Smith opposes keeping Sentinel on board and says he will propose putting the contract out for bid to get other offers when commissioners vote next week.
