Former Georgia State Schools Superintendent Linda Schrenko was released from home confinement Thursday.
Schrenko, who is originally from Columbia County, was convicted in 2006 of embezzling money from the state Department of Education to use in her 2002 gubernatorial campaign. Schrenko ultimately lost that race.
She was released from prison in March and ordered to serve the remainder of her sentence in home confinement. A spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Prisons said Schrenko still has to serve 3 years of probation.
