Augusta Mayor Pro Tem Corey Johnson could be moving up in the political world.
Johnson has confirmed to News Channel Six that he will run for the Georgia Senate.
He announced last night that he'll run for the District 22 Senate seat, which is currently held by Senator Hardie Davis.
Davis announced on Tuesday that he will run for Augusta Mayor in next year's election.
Johnson, who is a life-long resident Augusta resident, was elected to the commission in 2007. He was the youngest commisioner elected since the consolidation of Augusta's government. Johnson became mayor pro-tem in January.
