Illness Forces Boy To Use Robot For School

Posted: Updated:
Oklahoma -

An extremely rare type of illness is keeping an Oklahoma first-grader from setting foot inside a classroom, but he's still able to attend class with the help of a robot!  This is Conrad - or at least his face in the monitor of his telepresence system.  He's had to miss a lot of class because of a rare immune disorder; one that doesn't even have a name.  And, as far as his family knows, Conrad's the only one in the world who has it.  So, this robot keeps Conrad up to date on all his school work - going anywhere Conrad needs to go.  He can even go on field trips - controlling the robot from hundreds of miles away.  Conrad leaves this weekend for Denver where a bone marrow transplant awaits him.
