Brunswick, GA -

A scary new drug known as "Crazy Clown" is sending some users to the hospital. The synthetic incense is causing authorities to sound the alarm. Amanda Warford reports.

Jason Hedegard heard the terrifying screams from down the street.

"Three girls foaming out the mouth. One rolling around on the ground and my nephew couldn't walk," says Jason Hedgeard, whose nephew used "Crazy Clown."

He says someone brought a synthetic drug to a party at his nephew's home Thursday, and the effects of the drug sent eight teens and young adults to the hospital.

Amanda Warford reporting, "You don't know why was in that? The chemicals?"

"No. I don't," said Mathew Hedegard, "Crazy Clown" user.

24 year old, Matthew Hedegard, remembers nothing, but doctors say he was only five minutes away from losing his life.

"I puked and then I woke up in the hospital," said Hedegard.

Hedegard is one of eight people who Glynn County police say used a new shipment of a synthetic incense called "Crazy Clown" from this Brunswick smoke shop.

"Because of the violence," said Chief Matt Doering, Glynn County Police.

Chief Matt Doering says all eight users, ages 16 to 26, were unable to control themselves.  Some were taken to the ICU unable to breathe.

"The thing is we don't know if what we have is illegal or not!" said Chief Doering.

Police are now testing "Crazy Clown" to see what chemicals it contains.  Doering says manufacturers and distributors may be skirting state and federal laws by altering ingredients to stay one step ahead of the law.

"It has to have a certain illegal compound in it, that's what makes it hard for us," said Chief Doering.

The  CDC is now investigating, concerned about effect of "Crazy Clown" on other users across the country.  Right now, all police can do is issue a warning.

"If they can stop it that's good but at the same time they ain't gonna be able to stop it. Why? Cause they're going to produce it every day," said Hedegard.
