GRIFTON, N.C. -

A short police chase in Grifton has police still searching for a suspect.

Police say they spotted a a car around 3:00 a.m. Wednesday with a cardboard license plate. When police turned on the blue lights and attempted to make a stop, they say the car attempted to flee. After a short chase the suspect wrecked into a parked car in the Grifton Manor Apartment complex before fleeing on foot.

Police attempted to chase the suspect before losing him. An Ayden Police K9 Unit assisted for a short time before losing track.

Police also say the owner of the vehicle reported the vehicle stolen to Greenville Police overnight. Police say the owner of the vehicle is not a suspect, but they do have several good leads in the case.
