It seems that there is a new diet every week now.
But some health experts say the country has developed an unhealthy fixation with the fad diets.
Devin Dwyer explains why the solution to weight woes may be less gimmicky than we think.
Just drink juice... no, eat like a caveman... no, watch your glycemic index! Americans who are overweight seem to switch from one miracle diet to another.
But which is the one that will change the scale?
Now, health experts are telling Americans to ditch the idea that one fad diet is better than another... and instead, pick one and stick with it
if they're looking for a lasting result.
Researchers in this week's Journal of the American Medical Association say the differences between fad diets in terms of weight loss are negligible.
You'll lose with any.
The bigger problem, they claim, is that none of them offers long-term solutions, since people don't follow them long term.
So for loss that lasts, you'll have to find a healthy, reasonable diet - and not a gimmick.
With this medical minute, I'm Devin Dwyer.
