Headless body found; 2 NC men charged in death

Posted: Updated:
MORGANTON, N.C. -

Burke County authorities have found the headless body of a man who detectives say was shot to death nine days ago, and two men are charged in his death.

The Burke County Sheriff's Office says its detectives, along with State Bureau of Investigation agents, found the remains of 31-year-old Damond Lamont Kincaid on Monday adjacent to N.C. 105, in the Linville Gorge area.

The sheriff's office said 32-year-old David Matthew Higgins of Morganton is charged with first-degree murder and being held without bond. Authorities say Higgins led them to Kincaid's remains.

Also jailed is 17-year-old Jacob Dean Coley, who's charged with accessory after the fact and is jailed under $100,000 bond.

Both men have retained court-appointed attorneys, neither of whom was immediately available for comment Tuesday.
