No. 8 Clemson seeking answers in secondary

Posted: Updated:

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) - Clemson coach Dabo Swinney has the same worries about the Tigers secondary as almost anyone who watched them surrender several big plays last season.
More than two weeks into fall football camp, Swinney has seen some progress but not nearly enough to ease his concerns heading into the eighth-ranked Tigers' opener against No. 5 Georgia on Aug. 29.
The Tigers dealt with defensive backfield several injuries in 2012 which sidelined contributors, including Martin Jenkins, Bashaud Breeland (from Allendale-Fairfax) and Darius Robinson for stretches of last season. That left Clemson to count on less experienced players, who were routinely beaten for big gains: 16 of 39 touchdowns allowed went for 20 yards or more.
Swinney says that can't happen if Clemson hopes to compete for championships.
