Millions can't start their day without it, but how's this for a wake-up call? Heavy coffee consumption could increase your risk of death...according to a new study, at least.
Researchers studied the health habits of more than 43,000 adults for roughly 17 years. Among men, those who drank more than four cups of coffee a day,
whether it was regular or decaf, had a 20% higher risk of death from any cause. For those younger than 55, the risk was even higher - this time in
both women and men.
So is the coffee that's the problem? Maybe not.
After all, coffee drinkers tend be more stressed, they get less sleep, they're also more likely to smoke and skip exercise. All of these factors may play a role - so pay attention to that, too.
But, if you drink more than 4 cups of Joe a day, it might not be a bad idea to wake up and smell the coffee...and cut back.
