AUGUSTA, Ga. – The GRU Augusta Women's Cross Country Program has been predicted to finish fifth in the Peach Belt Conference after a preseason poll was conducted with the league's head coaches – the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.
The Jaguars tied with Flagler for the fifth-place spot with 63 points each. Columbus State's 100 points earned them first place (joining the CSU men) while Clayton State's 98 points and Montevallo's 84 got them second and third. UNC Pembroke, Flagler, GRU Augusta, Young Harris, Georgia College, North Georgia, Georgia Southwestern, USC Aiken and Francis Marion rounded out the preseason voting.
After winning six straight PBC titles between 2005 and 2010, CSU finished just behind Clayton State in last year's PBC Championship, but did beat the Lakers in capturing their first NCAA Southeast Regional championship. In addition to winning their first PBC Championship last year, Clayton State finished second at the NCAA Southeast Regional to qualify for the national championships as a team for the first time in school history.
GRU Augusta returns three runners and welcomes five new faces for the 2013 campaign. The 2013 PBC cross country season begins the weekend of Sept. 7 with the Jags racing in The Remembrance Run at the Southland Academy Course in Americus, Ga., with hosts Georgia Southwestern.
