North Augusta Department of Public Safety officials tell WJBF News Channel 6, 4 people have been arrested for counterfeiting activity.
Investigators say, early Wednesday morning, shortly after 6:00 a.m., the North Augusta Department of Public Safety's (NADPS) SWAT Team executed a search warrant at a home located at 1534 Elizabeth Street in North Augusta.
NADPS has been involved in a two-month-long joint investigation with U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF), U.S. Secret Service and the Columbia County Sheriff's Office surrounding suspicions of illegal drug and counterfeiting activity connected to the residence.
Four people were located inside the residence. They are identified as:
Smith has been charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Controlled Substance and has numerous federal charges pending in connection with counterfeiting. Garnett, Anderson, and Stewart have all been charged separately with Possession of Methamphetamine and multiple federal counterfeiting charges.
No one else was in the house at the time when the warrant was executed.
Investigators are continuing to work with the entire pool of collected information and collected evidence to determine the full extent of the counterfeiting operation. At this time, the four in custody are the only known involved.
Law enforcement seized Methamphetamine, Marijuana, U.S. currency, Counterfeit money, credit cards and U.S. Treasury Checks as well as the equipment needed to illegally manufacture the counterfeit items.
