The Bulls will have a pregame ceremony before the Charlotte Knights game at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park at 7 p.m. Aug.20. Food and drinks will be served leading up to the ceremony and ceremonial first pitch with Jones.

Gates open for fans at 5:30 to see Chipper Jones' ceremony and opening pitch followed by the Durham Bulls vs. Charlotte Knights game at 7:35.

Jones, a major league MVP and World Series champion, played 70 games for the Durham Bulls during the 1992 season before continuing his career with the Braves.

Jones was named MVP in 1999, won a batting title in 2008 and was an eight-time All-Star during his 19 year major league career. Jones, a switch hitter, had 468 career home runs.

On June 28, Jones' number 10 jersey  was retired by the Braves. He shares this distinction with John Smoltz (29), Bobby Cox (6), Dale Murphy (3),  Warren Spahn (21), Greg Maddux (31), Phil Niekro (35), Eddie Matthews (41), Hank Aaron (44), Tom Glavine (47).
