AUGUSTA, GA (WJBF) - After 5 years as an assistant at Josey, former NFL offensive lineman Raleigh Roundtree takes over his alma mater with an eye on re-building a storied program.
Roundtree has a lot of work to do to recapture to get the Eagles back to the level they were at in 1995, when Deon Grant led the team to a state championship.
Josey hasn't been to the playoffs since 1999 and won just two games in 2012. In 8 losses, the Eagles fell by an average of 35 points.
Roundtree says turning things around starts at practice.
"It's effort man, we have a lack of effort at times," Roundtree said. "I always stress to them that we haven't been to the playoffs since 1999. I just want to get them back to winning and rebuild that rich tradition."
The Eagles look for will try to grab a week one win for the second year in a row when they open the season at home against Hephzibah.
