Agency discusses development of NC offshore energy

RALEIGH, N.C. -

Residents will get the chance at two meetings to find out what the development of offshore wind energy might look like from the North Carolina coast.

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management has scheduled a meeting for Monday in Southport. The second meeting is slated for Wednesday at Carolina Shores.

The North Carolina Energy Office and the North Carolina Solar Center at North Carolina State University will attend the meetings and be available to answer questions regarding the identification of areas for offshore wind development.

The planning process is designed to identify areas for commercial offshore wind development with the least environmental and use conflicts, while also protecting sensitive habitats and resources. The process also seeks to minimize space use conflicts with activities such as military operations, shipping and fishing.
