Work crews with the N.C. Department of Transportation continue to work on roads flooded by recent heavy rain.
Severe flooding from more than 10 inches of rain on July 27 closed 26 roads and affected 30 others throughout Catawba, Lincoln, Cleveland and Iredell counties.
The department said bridge and maintenance units have made significant progress as 12 roads are opened, including N.C. 10 in Newton. Crews repaired the approaches and end bents for the Clark Creek bridge on N.C. 10 and opened it on Wednesday.
Three road closures are already under emergency contracts, two in Lincoln County and the other in Catawba County.
While repairs continue, NCDOT advises motorists to follow detour signs and not attempt to drive around barricades. Weather conditions may impact the repair schedule at each location.
