It's World Breast Feeding week and a local hospital is raising awareness about the benefits.
A Lunch and Learn event was held Thursday morning at Trinity Hospital by the CSRA Breastfeeding Coalition.
Their aim is to encourage more new moms to breast feed instead of giving their infants formula.
Organizers say the benefits are endless including a reduction in SIDs and obesity.
Merilee Gober is with the Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition:
"A part of the problem that moms don't do it is because they don't have encouragement from families and friends that they need and they don't have access to the clinical help when they need it. We need to make clinical access easier for our moms to be able to pick up a phone and say, 'I'm having trouble, where can I go?'"
Georgia Governor Nathan Deal signed a proclamation today declaring August as Breastfeeding Month in the state.
