Augusta Commission Voted To Change Meeting Times, But Forget About Ordinance

Posted: Updated:

The Augusta Commissioners haven't changed, and neither has the time they hold their meetings.

City leaders voted in July to change the time of Commission and committee meetings to 2:00 p.m., instead of 5:00 p.m. However, commission meetings are set by ordinance.

Commissioner Grady Smith made the motion to change the time, but says he wasn't aware the ordinance needed to be amended.

"I'm in the plumbing and heating and air business, I'm not a legal man. I thought we had all that done when we voted on it. This is just some of the stuff that gets your feet up in mud and you wonder, 'what did I get into now?" said Smith.

Commissioners are voting Tuesday night to amend the city ordinance, changing the meeting time to 2:00 p.m. instead of 5:00 p.m.
