COLUMBIA, SC (WJBF) -The Gamecocks are back to work after back to back 11 win seasons, they held their media day on Sunday as they look to take it to the next level.
Most of the focus surrounding Gamecock personnel surrounds junior defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, but there's more to the team including a veteran offensive line who will pave the way for whoever wins the starting running back job.
One of those lineman is former Bamberg-Ehrhardt Red Raider AJ Cann. The redshirt junior guard is on the Outland Trophy watch list and anchors an offensive line that returns 4 of 5 starters. And they may be relied upon now more that Marcus Lattimore is plying his trade on Sundays in the NFL.
"Even though Marcus was the back that we looked for last year, we got a couple great running backs coming back like Mike Davis and Brandon Wilds," said Cann. "This is their third year in the offense so they're very experienced and with us leading the way - they'll be ready to go."
Williston-Elko's Kendric Sally is hoping to be in the mix at running back as well after missing his freshman year recovering from a torn ACL. Running backs coach Everett Sands says Salley is still a work in progress but had an impressive spring and will certainly make his way on the field in the future.
