It's a good day for shopping if you live in South Carolina. Right now the tax free holiday is in full swing. WJBF News Channel 6's Barclay Bishop has more.
The store manager at Office Depot, says they've stocked their shelves with extra merchandise. Saturday morning, they anticipate shoppers waiting in line for the doors to open. And like many – they expect this year to be better than before.
"We beef up the staffing, we pretty much double the amount of people we have in the store during that time," said Keith Ladun, Office Depot store manager. "And the sales floor associates sometimes are even tripled during our peak traffic hours."
"We see a lot of people that sometimes it is the only time of the year that we see them. So the biggest thing is to get them in here, getting them satisfied," said Ladun. "Making sure that they're able to get what they want, what they came for, so they don't leave unhappy."
South Carolina's tax free holiday ends Sunday at midnight. Georgia's tax free holiday will be Friday, August 9 th and Saturday, August 10th.
Clothing and footwear with a sales price of $100 or less per item will be exempt from sales tax, along with single purchases of $1,000 or less of personal computers and computer-related accessories. Also, general school supplies to be used in the classroom or in classroom-related activities with a sales price of $20 or less per item are exempt from sales tax.
