AUGUSTA, GA. – Former Atlanta Braves pitcher John Rocker will make an appearance at Lake Olmstead Stadium on Wednesday, July 31st, when the GreenJackets host the Rome Braves. Rocker is scheduled to throw out the first pitch prior to the game and will be signing autographs for fans during the game on the concourse.
Rocker was drafted by the Braves in the 18th round of the 1993 amateur draft out of First Presbyterian Day School. He made his Major League debut on May 5, 1998, and went 1-3 with a 2.13 ERA in 38 innings of work his first year in the Majors
He spent four seasons with the Braves before being traded to the Cleveland Indians in 2001. The following year Rocker was with the Texas Rangers for a season and finished his career with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
In Rocker's six seasons in the majors, he held a 13-22 record with a 3.42 ERA while striking out 332 batters in 255.1 innings pitched. He also had 88 career saves, which is tied for 159th on the all-time saves list.
The Georgia native will be promoting his book, ‘Scars and Strikes' at Wednesday's game.
