Augusta Ballet hosts its third annual Bike for the Ballet (B4B) August 25th at Enterprise Mill with the ride at 8:00 a.m. and celebration at noon.
B4B is the only supported ride using the Ironman 70.3 Augusta cycling course before the September competition. Tutu-clad cyclists from throughout the Southeast prepare for the race and raise awareness of Augusta Ballet's efforts to promote active living.
"This will be our third Bike for the Ballet, and we hope our most successful," said Ted McLyman, board president of Augusta Ballet. "For the first time, we will offer ride routes for both the experienced triathlete and cyclist, and the weekend rider."
The 60-mile Ironman route and two shorter 36-mile and 22-mile courses are supported during the ride.
The $35 registration fee includes full rider support at rest stops on any of the courses and a ticket to the celebration. Additional celebration tickets are available to non-cyclists for $10. Sponsoring a tutu for $50 enables Augusta Ballet to continue its mission of enhancing the quality of life in its community.
"Your donation will help support one of Augusta's oldest institutions – the Augusta Ballet," McLyman said. "Plus, you might be surprised how well you look in a tutu."
