Bags of marijuana and around 1,000 ecstasy pills were all pulled from a U-Haul van Monday evening. Investigators could be seen searching the van and putting the drugs into duffel bags at a gas station in southeast Atlanta.
"A lot, yes, a lot of drugs and at the time they were still searching the car, the van," says witness Leo Freddy.
Freddy works at Burger Joy restaurant in the shopping center where investigators brought the van. A Georgia State Patrol spokesperson says a trooper tried to pull over the driver of the van Monday evening on I-20 westbound, near Moreland Avenue. The driver pulled over to the left, but then bailed out of the van, hopping the median and ran across eastbound lanes of the interstate, dodging oncoming cars and was able to get away.
"We are so close to the interstate and a lot of things happen here, too," Freddy says.
Investigators searched the van and found boxes full of things like cereal and household items. They also found 11 pounds of marijuana, worth around $9,000, and a bag which one investigator told us was filled with around 1,000 ecstasy pills.
The Georgia State Patrol says, where these drugs were heading is still under investigation.
People, like Freddy, who work nearby are concerned as investigators search for the man transporting those drugs.
"I'm kind of worried about it, too, because it happened here," Freddy says.
