ARC's Sigg leads after 1st round of U.S. Amateur qualifier

ATHENS, Ga. ---  Greyson Sigg of Augusta, winner of the 2011 Georgia Junior Championship, posted a 3-under-par 67 in the first round to lead the U.S. Amateur qualifier held at Athens Country Club. 

Gregory Young of Sharpsburg, Ga., and Sam Straka of Valdosta, Ga., are tied at 2-under-par 68. Austin Langdale of Townville, S.C., and Cates Culpepper of Columbus, Ga., each turned in 1-under-par 69 scores. Sigg, Young, Straka, Langdale and Culpepper are the only players under-par. 

Sixty-four players made the 18-hole cut at 5-over-par 75 and better.

This is the second of two 36-hole qualifiers in the state of Georgia for the 2013 U.S. Amateur Championship. The field of 128 players are competing for four automatic spots into the Championship, which will take place at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass., August 12-18.
