After Big Boi cancels, Hopscotch searches for new headliner

RALEIGH, N.C. -

One of the headliners of this year's Hopscotch Music Festival has been forced to cancel his performance, leaving its organizers scrambling for a replacement.

"Big Boi will not perform as scheduled on Friday, Sept. 6, in Raleigh City Plaza as part of Hopscotch Music Festival," the festival's organizers announced Friday.

"We learned of this news very recently and have been working hard to both fill Big Boi's slot and secure a potential make-up date with him later in September."

In May, the rapper suffered a torn patella in his left knee while performing in Chillicothe, Ill., at Summer Camp Fest. As a result, he had to undergo emergency knee surgery and was forced to postpone several upcoming shows until he could get back on his feet.

It was not immediately clear if his performance at this September's Hopscotch Music Festival was affected by the knee injury. However, he is scheduled to perform in Wisconsin and Los Angeles in August, and in Atlanta on Sept. 13.

Big Boi is scheduled to perform at The Orange Peel in Asheville on Sept. 25 and at the Brooklyn Arts Center in Wilmington, N.C., on Sept. 26.

Hopscotch is expected is make an announcement this week regarding additional talent and ticketing, including refunds.

Friday's City Plaza show will still include performances from Gross Ghost and Future Islands. On Saturday, City Plaza will feature headlining sets from Spiritualized and The Breeders, along with openers The Lollipops.
