An Augusta Commissioner says not only should city leaders travel...they should be made to do it.
As we first reported, city leaders have spent nearly $40,000 attending three conferences since April.
Mayor Pro-Tem Corey Johnson is one of four Commissioners who attended each one, including a national conference in Texas earlier this week, and he says attending conferences should be a requirement.
"We pay annual dues to these conferences and we should go. We would be buffoons not to go, George. If you don't want to learn, you don't want to do anything to make a difference, and that is something in my opinion. It should be mandatory, you should go, you should be made to go. Otherwise, you keep doing the same things, you get the same results," said Johnson.
Johnson, Marion Williams, Bill Fennoy, and Bill Lockett are the four Commissioners who attended all three conferences.
