Duke Police are making changes after pair of armed robberies

DURHAM, N.C. -

Police are investigating the second armed robbery at Duke Gardens within a week and a half and they're increasing patrols as a result.

A woman was robbed near the Lewis Street entrance around noon Thursday. The victim was not injured.

University Police Chief John Dailey said it is unusual to have robberies on campus, especially during the middle of the day. He said extra officers have been added to patrol.

Police released sketches of two suspects from a separate armed robbery at the Gardens from last Monday. Both men were in their late teens, and wearing black shirts and pants.

"I usually feel safer during the daytime, so that's even more startling that these robberies occurred during the day," Sudeh Izadmehr said.

Izadmehr is visiting from New York City.  She says she's being more cautious.

"Being in the city, you're always cautious of your surroundings and the different people that may be walking around," she said.

Last week's robbery happened in the same general area as today's incident.

Dailey says it is unclear whether the same suspects were involved.

Anyone with information is asked to call Duke University Police at (919) 684 2444.
