The Dying Dance: A Father/Daughter Love Story

Auburn, CA -

The veil, the dress, the makeup, the gazebo - it was all perfect.

The only thing missing - was a groom.

But that's okay - there wasn't supposed to be one.

This daddy and daughter dance - was just for them...

Because when it comes time for the real thing... "daddy" won't be there.

Nick Monacelli has more.

"It says Rachel rose wolf is requesting the honor of your presence at the father and daughter dance."

To say 25-year-old Rachel Wolf has a vivid imagination... would be an understatement

But to say that desperate times call for desperate measures... that sums up this story best...

"Hi are you almost here?"

The person "almost here"... is Rachel's dad - Doctor James Wolf.

He's the one facing desperate times.... he's losing his battle with pancreatic cancer... and is most afraid... of what he'll miss out on.

"Because I'm saddened over the fact that I won't be there for the events of her life.  That's been difficult on me."

So... even though she isn't engaged... Rachel has a special invitation...."my greatest sadness of you not being here is that you won't get to walk me down the aisle... or have a special father/daughter dance.... so I'm inviting you to my wedding."

"I don't want to regret one day that I could have done it because he's here... I get to have that forever... and that's awesome."

They're new "one day" - is now.

"I'm nervous, I'm excited... I don't know."

In less than 10 days...the community helped make Rachel's wish come true...

"I almost just want to run to him with open arms... screaming daddy!"

A few miles down the road... friends, family, strangers - even patients of the once named "Doctor of the year"... were waiting...

"It's really an honor to be in all of your lives, and I'm so thankful that you came."

And so thankful... to share in one of the best moments they'll ever have...

"My daughter is going to be walking out of the car.  And it's a dream... it's an absolute dream."

"Hi honey you look gorgeous... thanks daddy"

"I've been waiting for this moment...I can't tell you how long I've been

waiting for this moment"

"I love you, I love you Rachel.  You look very handsome."

"Let's go dance okay?"

"Well let's go dance, okay?"

"I picked this song out for you..."

"I'll always be with you okay?  Remember that."

"Will you spin me?"

"Thank you so much daddy for coming to this.  I wouldn't have missed it.

I wouldn't have missed it."

He almost did miss it though...

James was in the hospital... getting a blood transfusion that morning...

He isn't on chemotherapy anymore...If he's lucky... his doctors say he has another three months.

That said... James is not afraid of dying... but he says he won't miss his girls...because he'll always be there.

The girls... on the other hand.... "There's missing.  There's lots of missing... I love you dad.

I love you too sweetheart. And don't be afraid.  I'm not afraid I'm just going to miss

you. I know that.  I know that sweetheart."

"I'll always be around, I want you to know that."
