UPDATED ON 6: Cabela's Coming To Augusta

Augusta, GA -

***UPDATED at 6:40 P.M. on Thursday, July 25th***

The Garden City will welcome another new store that will bring in nearly a hundred jobs to the area.

This news coming just 24 hours after Bass Pro Shops announced they are setting up shop in Columbia County, off Wheeler Road.

Cabela's will open up in Richmond County at the Village at Riverwatch, near the Costco.

On Wednesday, we told you 300 jobs are coming because of a new Bass Pro Shops in Columbia County – and now this new Cabela's store will bring in 90 jobs to Richmond County.

City leaders say this is a great addition to the region – because not only will this bring in jobs, but also bring in other stores – and that means more sales tax dollars

An empty lot off Riverwatch Parkway will soon house the first Cabela's store in Georgia.

The 42,000 square foot store will employ 90 people.

"It's a great location - it's the first ramp as soon as you get into Georgia.  That speaks volumes  for the economy," said Mayor Deke Copenhaver.

The new Cabelas store will go up on this lot on Riverwatch Parkway, right next to Costco. They already have some markers in place.  And to make room for the new store, they have to extend Alexander Drive to make room for all that new traffic.

Cabela's is one of the biggest retailers in outdoor, fishing and hiking gear - the new store in Richmond County will face direct competition with Bass Pro Shops, -which announced just yesterday- will set up shop in Columbia County.  City leaders say the timing of the announcement was just co-incidental.

"You know it's not us versus them - most regions would kill to have a Bass Pro Shops or a Cabela's, but we have both," said Copenhaver.

It's estimated that the grand opening of Cabela's next spring will bring in around 5-thousand customers --- and that means more sales tax dollars for Augusta. The new store may also bring new businesses into the complex.

"You leverage announcements like this - think about the new Starbucks plant, the expansion of Plant Vogtle. This speaks volumes of our market. Costco brought in Cabela's, and Cabela's will bring in other retailers," said Copenhaver.

"These are the 2 catalysts and this will jump start and get a lot of interest out here," said Economic Development Authority Director Walter Sprouse.

Just in the last few hours, we've learned that Cabela's will get a new neighbor – a new movie complex will open here in the fall of 2014.

City leaders say other potential projects here at the Villages at Riverwatch include a hotel, restaurants and a possible apartment complex – so it's certainly been good news for Augusta on the economic front.
