In this months Buddy Check 6 report, after sowing seeds of compassion for more than a decade, one woman is reaping the help she needs at exactly the right moment.
News Channel Six's Kimberely Scott has her story.
October 2013 marks the 13th Annual Miracle Mile Walk sponsored by University Hospital.
It''s a three mile fun walk that draws thousands and raises money to help breast cancer patients.
For nearly 10 years, Kathleen Bailey is one of many who helped to orchestrate the fund raising, the walkers and the celebration of life, "100 percent of the proceeds stay right here in the augusta community to provide mammograms to uninsured women.
Now the women who helped so many, needs a little TLC herself, Kathleen has breast cancer, "last year my mammogram was completely clear, and then this year they detected something and the do a diagnostic exam and that's when they found breast cancer."
Still processing the news when she spoke with us, Kathleen says the diagnoses comes responsibility, " in a way I think that that is my mission to get the word out and to stress that early detection early detection is the most important thing that you can do for yourself."
Although she has a family history, breast cancer survivor is one title she didn't think she'd ever wear, "working along side the breast heath center and raising money for them, i just never thought that i would be on the other side and now that i've been diagnosed i'll be walking along side the breast health center."
She'll join a host of other survivors who are walking and winning their battle against the disease.
University Hospital's Annual Miracle Mile walk is just a few months away.
The 3-mile fun walk is set for Saturday October 19th, starting at the Augusta Common
1336 Augusta West Parkway
