Tropics Update: NHC Discontinues Advisories on Dorian

Posted: Updated:

At 11 AM Wednesday, July 24th, the National Hurricane Center began issuing advisories on now Tropical Wave Dorian.

As of the latest advisory at 5 PM Saturday, the center of poorly organized Tropical Wave Dorian was located at 18.9 N, 54.7 W in the central Atlantic Ocean.  The remnants of Dorian are moving toward the West at 24 mph. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph, but has lost a defined low pressure center.

The National Hurricane Center is advising this will likely be the last update on Dorian. It will likely still have an impact on the Caribbean Islands over the next few days with heavy rains.

As we've been reporting, Dorian would have had to make it through this weekend and the issues it faced, such as dry air, cooler water temperatures, wind shear (in the vertical and horizontal) All these factors together have helped to mitigate further development.

The storm is forecasted to move into warmer waters, but a highly sheared environment which will help to stop regeneration.
