Augusta Commission Needs To Change Law To Change Meeting Times

Posted: Updated:
Augusta, GA -

Augusta Commissioners voted to change the times of their meetings. However, to do that, they need to change the law.

Commission and committee meeting times are set by city ordinance 7165. It was amended and the second reading was approved in August of 2012

But Monday, Commissioners voted to change times for both committee meetings and Commisison meetings...moving Commission meetings to 2:00 p.m. instead of 5:00 p.m. and committee meetings to noon instead of 12:45 p.m.

However, there was no vote to repeal or amend or change the existing ordinance.

The city's attorney, Andrew Mackenzie, wrote in an e-mail that he anticipates Commissioners will amend the ordinance to reflect the time changes, but he says the meetings can start at their new times, as long at the public is properly notified.

The first committee meeting under the new time would be July 29th. The next Commission meeting is set for August 6th.
