It could be a lot brighter on Augusta's Riverwalk.
Our cameras were there alone as city officials were checking out the proposed new lights for the park. After a brutal assault in May, security has been the big concern.
The new LED lights would be 40 percent brighter than what's there now, and city leaders feel it would be a good addition for Riverwalk.
"Oh absolutely, it looks beautiful. It's low maintenance, it gives a nice bright white light. It's really going to light things up good. It also gives us the option to add a circuit if we need a circuit," says Augusta Recreation, Parks, and Facilities Department director Bob Levine.
The new lights would come at a cost, though. They're more than a $1,000 apiece, and there are more than 350 lights on Riverwalk that would have to be replaced.
Augusta Commissioners are scheduled to discuss the Riverwalk to-do list at a meeting later this month.
