Historical Hotel In McDuffie County Burns Down

Boneville, GA -

McDuffie County fire officials are still trying to determine what caused an abandoned landmark in Boneville, to burn down.  WJBF News Channel 6's Barclay Bishop has more.

The fire at The Dixie Inn broke out just before 11pm Tuesday night.  When firefighters arrived the hotel was fully involved and flames were shooting out of all parts of the building.   It took nearly 2 hours to put the fire out.  One woman describes to us what she saw.

"I was just looking out the window because I live up the road a little bit, and I just saw flames and sparks and just a red maize here," said Thelma Brassel, lives in Boneville.

No injuries were reported.  Investigators are calling this a suspicious fire since it was abandoned and there was no power source.  We're told there have been small fires reported there before and people are often seen going in and out of the building.
