Commission Raids Savings But No Plan To Raise Taxes

Augusta comes up millions short when it comes to city spending

Commissioners getting the word tonight from finance officials that city savings had to be used raided to balance the 2012 budget.

With the city coming up 3 million dollars shot.

In 2011 the city ended with a one point six million dollar surplus.

but that wasn't the case last year.

"It's unfortunate but it could have been worse I think it's something we can overcome but it isn't anything you wanted to happen," said Commissioner Bill Lockett.

Despite last year's shortfall city leaders are not going after any new money.

Commissioners voting tonight not to increase property taxes this year.
