Augusta, GA -

***UPDATED at 4:18 P.M. on Friday, July 12th***

There have been more road closures reported due to the flooding the CSRA has seen in the last few days, as well as access restrictions to the Savannah River.

In Allendale County, sections of Concord Church Road were impassible due to flood waters near Appleton Road and at Gadson Morris Road. A house flooded along Highway 278 near McMillian Memorial Road, and 2-3 vehicles were reportedly washed off Highway 278 near McMilliam Memorial Road. Several bridges were reported to be underwater from creeks overspilling banks, leaving several cars stranded.

Flash flooding was reported in Bamberg County, along Fire Tower Road. Also, Capernaum Road was closed due to flooding near Bamberg. Portions of Highway 78 between Denmark and Bamberg are closed due to flooding. A flash flood was reported Thursday night at the intersection of Equine Road and Big Fork Road.

In Barnwell County, portions of Highway 78 towards Bamberg were flooded, and flooding was reported at the intersection of Equine Road and Big Fork Road.

New Road closure for Richmond County:

  • Mims Road in Hephzibah

The following areas in Richmond County remain closed through the weekend:

  • Lock and Dam Road at Doug Barnard Parkway is closed. Employees of the Phinizy Swamp Nature Park will be allowed access to report to work.
  • The boat ramps and boating access points in Richmond County have been closed until further notice due to rising water and safety concerns.
  • All lower walking paths on the Riverwalk remained closed until further notice.
  • Marina Road remains closed.
  • Lock and Dam Park and access to the Baurle Boat Ramp below Augusta Regional Airport is closed.

Citizens are strongly encouraged to stay off the river. The water is moving too swiftly for rescues if you are in danger. There is a lot of debris in the river that can cause harm to people and property.

Never drive vehicles through standing water and do not let children play in flood waters.

More information will be provided as it becomes available. If you are in an area that is flooding, please report that information to 911 Dispatch at (706)821-1080.

In Columbia County, Dresden Drive will be closed to thru traffic between the intersections of Columbia Road and Shallowford Place. Thru traffic and residents of Sedgefield Subdivision will need to use Columbia Road, Morehead Drive and Shallowford Place as a detour route and/or access to and from their properties. The closure is for the repairs and installation of storm water infrastructure along Dresden Drive. Wood Creek Drive will be closed to thru traffic between the intersections of Columbia Road and Dunwoody Road. Thru traffic and residents of Springlakes Subdivision will need to use Columbia Road, Stone Mill Drive and Dunwoody Rosd as a detour route and/or access to and from their properties. The closure is for the repairs and installation of storm water infrastructure along Wood Creek Drive. Residents are urged to plan to take an alternate route and/or allow additional time for commuting on these days.

The Savannah Riverkeeps tells us, all gates to the Savannah River, and outfall pipes are not functioning due to river flooding. With recent rains, large scale flooding on all creeks and even storm drain areas is highly probable.
