There were more traffic delays at Fort Gordon Wednesday morning.
Gate 2 was supposed to open at 5:30 a.m., but Fort Gordon civilian employess tell News Channel 6 that it opened 45 minutes late.
The delay caused another huge traffic jam and some employees have been waiting in line for an hour just to get through the gate.
Fort Gordon officials released this statement regarding the gate opening delay:
"Gate 2 did not open on time this morning because gate personnel were not on hand at the gate in time for the 5:30 a.m. scheduled opening. As a result, we did not have the minimum number of guards on hand to open the gate. It was opened as soon as possible, at approximately 6:10 a.m. In order to facilitate checking credentials for access and provide security overwatch for the gate, no fewer than 2 personnel are required in order to open an access point on the installation. After redistributing guards and military police to enable yesterday's reopening of Gate 2, even the loss of one person for a short period affects our ability to maintain service at our access points. We regret that this adversely affected traffic in the area this morning, and we will continue to do our best to provide smooth access while maintaining the security of our installation."
