Durham police investigating fatal hit-and-run

DURHAM, N.C. -

Durham police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run involving a bicyclist that occurred Monday night at the 1700 block of Hillandale Road.

The incident happened just before 9 p.m. when a bicyclist was traveling north on Hillandale Road when he was struck from behind by a vehicle. Witnesses reported that the vehicle braked suddenly and swerved before continuing along the road after striking the victim.

The victim was transported to Duke Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses reported the vehicle as a dark-colored, possibly burgundy, late 90s or early 2000s model sedan.

The crash is still under investigation.  No further information is available at this time.
